    Monday 29th January 2018

    Dear Parents

Introductory Meeting – Thursday 8th February at 6:30pm in Eagles

Residential Educational Visit to Mill Rythe Hayling Island – 19th- 23rd June 2019

As you will be aware, Year 6 undertake a residential trip in the summer term, after they have taken their SATs.  This is an incredible opportunity for them to partake in a wide range of exciting, challenging and extremely rewarding activities.  These include fencing, abseiling and kayaking, as well as team-building activities such as raft building and buggy building.

This meeting will be an opportunity to come and find out what the trip entails. Next year, we will be holding another meeting, where more specific information will be given regarding clothing requirements and travel arrangements. If you wish to look at the website, the address is

Due to JCA requesting firm numbers for our residential trip much earlier than usual, we need to establish how many of the current year 5 cohort intend to go to Mill Rythe in 2019. The anticipated cost of the trip will be approximately £385 though this may alter depending on the number of children who come. It is hoped that no child will miss out because of financial difficulties; we are sometimes able to help low-income families meet the cost.  Please speak to one of the Year 6 team or Mrs Cole if you have any concerns regarding this aspect of the trip before Friday 23rd February.  If your child is in receipt of free school meals, then the school will pay the cost in line with the government’s policy on pupil premium. Once the deposit has been paid, a saving card will be issued to you. Payments can be made as a one off payment or in instalments, should you wish to do so.

To secure a place for your child we need to be in receipt of a deposit (non-returnable) of £50.00 by Friday 23rd February.  Please return your cheques (payable to ‘Owlsmoor Primary School’) or cash to the school office with the completed form.  If providing the full deposit by Friday 23rd presents a problem, please let us know.

Once we have informed JCA of our numbers, it will be extremely difficult to make any changes as the complex runs at full capacity throughout the summer months. We cannot guarantee being able to accommodate any additional children who change their mind and wish to attend at the last minute.

Similarly if you decide, at a later stage to withdraw your child, or you move away and your child is no longer on our school roll you will unfortunately lose your deposit as we are unable to claim it back from Mill Rythe.

Parents and children should be aware that we reserve the right not to take an individual child where it is clear that they lack the maturity and self-discipline to be a responsible member of the party.

If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please do not hesitate to speak to one of us.

    Yours sincerely,

    Year 6 Team
